Our young people are aged between 11 and 19, and come to Values Academy from all over the Midlands. We welcome students from just around the corner and from as far afield as Cannock and Burton. They come from a wide range of backgrounds and lifestyles. Some live at home with their parents; others live with foster carers or in children’s homes. This diversity among our students enriches our school community and provides a source of education in and of itself.
These young people have often experienced difficulties in education and in their lives outside school. Many of our students may have disengaged from education, becoming disenfranchised.
Some students are experiencing emotional difficulties. Others may have found it stressful in mainstream education because of problems like bullying. Many of our students have statements of special educational need for difficulties like Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, (including Asperger’s Syndrome) and Oppositional Defiant Disorder, or may be experiencing general social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
Individual students decide for themselves whether to attend Values Academy, but referrals come from a variety of places: SEN (special education needs) offices
